This qualification can be booked as an accredited top-up unit for Forest School Level 3 practitioners or as a non accredited course for information and upskilling. Please note, the two courses will run together, the only difference is the accreditation at the end and a price difference. Here is the syllabus for the three days:
Course Content Summary:
One unit Coastal School Leader, delivered over three days.
Tides; how to read them and use them in your planning along with other environmental factors
Ecology; Essential plant and animal identification, native and invasive.
Practical ideas
Plant and animal identification
Establishing Coastal School activities suitable for your beach.
Outdoor practical skills, beach fires and shelters suited to your beach or coastal activities that work, and how to lead sessions.
Health & Safety on the coast; Risk assessments, current marine hazards and plastic pollution
Preparing your CS Handbook - What you need to include including policies and procedures.
Planning, delivering and evaluating Coastal School sessions.
To complete the accredited course you will run six pilot Coastal School sessions at your coastal location after the course.
There is a small workbook of evidence to submit six months from the start of the course.
Location of training
Coastal School training site is Mersea Beach and around Mersea Island with use of a beach hut for shelter.

Entry Qualifications Required for accredited course:
- be over 18
- completed a level 3 Forest School course or equivalent
- a proposed site to carry out six Coastal School sessions
- a client group to work with (up to 16 participants)
Identified Coastal School location.
Entry Qualifications Required for non accredited course:
- be over 18.
